Woodstock Lineup Announced

ROME, N.Y. (AP) — James Brown may get a brand new bag: Opening Woodstock '99.

If organizers can strike the deal, the Godfather of Soul will get the music started at the 30th anniversary festival, which begins Friday at noon.

``It was a major decision who would open. We think James will be a lot of fun,'' said Hayley Sumner, a Woodstock '99 spokeswoman. The deal for Brown to play Woodstock was not yet completed Monday but organizers expected it soon.

The festival's preliminary schedule was released Monday by Metropolitan Entertainment Group, which is producing a 65-hour pay-per-view live telecast of the megaconcert. Producer Jeff Rowland noted that artists are subject to change.

The telecast will be hosted by veejay Kennedy, along with guest celebrities such as Jenna Elfman, Andy Dick, Jimmy Fallon, Rosie Perez, Stephen Baldwin and others, Rowland said. The telecast begins at noon Friday and continues until 6 a.m. Monday.
